Stop and Smell the Roses…

Have you taken the time to stop and smell the roses lately?

Literally and figuratively. We have become so engrossed in the things that make us anxious and unsettled lately that we haven’t taken the time for the beautiful things in life. 2020 is the year for high anxiety and feeling out of sorts, but there is some beauty to this year as well. We must find that beauty and hold onto it for dear life. Some of us are hanging on by a thread, and I get that. I know that I find myself some days feeling unstoppable, unmovable, a force that only the law of motion can explain. Then there are days when I feel like I want to hide out and not be seen by anyone. That is life in this year.

How many of you can say that you get really great news one day, and then later in the week you may get something that completely unsettles your spirit? I know that is the roller coaster I have ridden all year, but as I encourage myself to not submit to defeat, I also encourage anyone reading this to do the same. Has this year been difficult? Yes. Has this year taken more than it has given? Sometimes. Are you going to give up? I know that I will not, what about you? While I complain about the inability to have my regular time to myself, I appreciate the time I have had with my family. We haven’t been able to travel like we wanted, we have had movie nights, we have had game nights, we have discussed our future and made plans. My daughter has spent more time with her painting, my son has progressed immensely in his schoolwork with my homeschooling program, and I finally started my book. Although my daughter’s senior year hasn’t been one that we wanted for her because of the pandemic, she is doing exceptionally well, and we could not be prouder of the young lady she is becoming.

Have you stop to take in the beauty of the world around you?

The world has become such an ugly place.  People are constantly bickering and fighting – forgetting about the important things going on around us…it is like one big reality tv show.  I cannot stand reality tv, unless we are building homes, cooking, or doing something for the good of humanity.  I cannot stand to sit around and watch other people’s drama; I see enough of that on the news.  I would rather pick up a book, watch the squirrels dart across the yard and chase each other up a tree, or notice the my hibiscus are blooming, which normally only bloom the years we get snow here in SE Texas.  Do I have something to look forward to?  I sure hope so.  That would make my children absolutely beyond happy.  We have been planning a ski trip for the last several years and have yet to make it because of things that have been happening in life, but a little snow on the ground would make them happy, nonetheless.  It may not be a great accumulation, it may not last awfully long, but just to see their faces as it falls would mean the world to me as their mother.  That is what you want to see from your children; pure, unadulterated happiness!  I crave seeing my children happy.

We started decorating for Christmas around the house this week, and my 6-year-old is still excited. We currently have a tree in each of the kid’s rooms, one in the family room/playroom and I still have one to put up in our living room. Do I normally decorate this much? NO. Why so much this year? First of all, we were out of our home last year and could only fit a small tree in the tiny apartment we were in. Secondly, we had one hell of a year, and regardless what may or may not be underneath the tree this year – our home is going to be a “winter wonderland!” I implore all of you to enjoy the good, recognize the bad, but do not let it consume you, and take the time to enjoy life and those near and dear to you. One thing that this year has taught us is that anything can happen at any moment. We must enjoy life as much and as often as we can. I also say, do so safely because things are not looking good going into the winter. Love to all who take the time to read what I have to say and feel.💋💋

Wonderfully created wife, woman and mother of two who can never find an extra 4 hours in a day to get those things accomplished that I didn't get done throughout the day. I am working on making the most of the 24 hours I do get every day and sipping as much coffee as I can while doing it
